Last week one morning was 11 degrees when I woke up in Michigan!!! Yes, 11 degrees!!!
And we walked! Walking those doodle dogs is one of my most FAVORITE things to do. Yep, even at 11 degrees!!! It is actually BETTER at 11 degrees. Haha, I hadn't showered, put a hat on over my hair (which then sticks straight up in the air because, well, I have SO much hair), penguin scarf, snowflake gloves, neon blue tennis shoes because I couldn't find my walking boots, and LAYERS!!! Lots.of.layers.
I looked like a hot mess! I knew those boy dogs needed to be outside for a few minutes, and with it being, well 11 degrees, I knew it would be a short walk!
And you know what? I like feeling messy. Haha, I didn't mind not matching, throwing a hat over my huge hair, and walking Mason and Milo simply so they can be out. We have no agenda, there is nothing to get done in those walks, and I can have sweet sightings of gratitude as I pray and walk.
Neighbors that wave, my favorite song on Pandora, houses sweetly decorated for Christmas, and the fact that I don't get pulled through the neighborhood by the sight of squirrels from my two wonky dogs who weigh 160 pounds combined... You know small victories!
Especially in this busy season of shopping, decorating, to-do lists everywhere we look... I want to celebrate not matching, not having to care, and instead, take joy in breathing in COLD air because I can. On these days I want the permission to be messy, to not care, and instead to just sit, breath, and feel the momentum of a day I am not rushing to get through!!!
Being a scheduled person by nature, there is such freedom on the days I don't match. On the days where I simply live, breath, and invest where I am led. I like these days! I like the days where my pajamas are my uniform of the morning, and a sweatshirt I have had since high school is my evening dress!
Here's to finding a moment this week to put a hat on and walk. Or sit. Here's to simply being messy, and celebrating the chaos of life undone and unfinished with no makeup on! Here's to finding Jesus in these tender moments... deeply knowing He is right beside us!!!
I promise, it feels good to leave the agenda for a few minutes, and just embrace our unmatched, in-progress selves!
"No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good,
and this is what he requires of you:
to do what is right, to love mercy,
and to walk humbly with your God."
